Edna Elena Vega Rangel, Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (SEDATU), and Rodrigo Chávez Contreras, General Director of the National Commission of Housing (Conavi), presented the progress of Housing for Well-Being at the Morning Briefing of the People, under the presidency of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. Vega Rangel highlighted that the goal for the six-year term is the construction of one million new homes, as well as 450,000 improvements and expansions. By 2025, it is expected to reach 125,000 homes.
Regarding the progress of the project, 318 plots of land have been identified, equivalent to 2,769 hectares. 31 coordination tables have been established at the state and municipal levels, in addition to signing 15 cooperation agreements. There are 200 executive projects in progress and one work in process in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur.
From Conavi's side, 173 plots have been identified in 30 entities covering 1,937 hectares, which translates into 319,303 new homes. 100,000 supports have been allocated for home improvement in the State of Mexico, specifically in municipalities such as Chalco, Chicoloapan, Chimalhuacán, Ecatepec, Ixtapaluca, La Paz, Nezahualcóyotl, Texcoco, Tlalnepantla, and Valle de Chalco.
Regarding the process to rent a home and the reception of payments, an institutional scheme is followed which includes the signing of contracts, both with CONAVI-FINABIEN and between the tenants and the rental entity, CONAVI. The delivery of homes is carried out by CONAVI, which provides FINABIEN with the lists of the tenants. The latter make their payments at FINABIEN branches, whose resources are deposited in the FINABIEN Trust for the construction of more homes.
The project also seeks the integration of women heads of households, single mothers, youth, indigenous populations, elderly adults, and people with disabilities into the registry, in order to guarantee access to housing as a fundamental right of the people of Mexico.
